Who Is Leading the Workshop?
I’m Dr. Emily Roberts, the founder of Personal Finance for PhDs and facilitator of this workshop.
I started out on the PhD track just like you are. I completed my PhD in biomedical engineering at Duke University in 2014 after living for seven years on a stipend.
During that time, my passion for personal finance grew and grew, as did my desire to serve my own community.
I founded my business, Personal Finance for PhDs, after I defended. Over the years, I’ve found many avenues to assist PhDs with their personal finances, including speaking engagements at universities, individual and group financial coaching, webinars and workshops, ebooks, and my podcast.
I’m delighted to offer high-quality financial education tailored for PhDs and individualized support to you in a cost-effective format!

Do I need any prior knowledge or experience coming into the workshop?
It’s easy to become quickly intimidated by financial jargon!
The workshop assumes a basic level of financial literacy, e.g., you functionally understand what an interest rate is, even if you couldn’t define it mathematically.
However, when it comes to topics like investing, I explain the basic terms and concepts early before building on those.
If you have a checking account in the US, you’re well prepared to tackle the course material.
If you are ever unable to understand a the material, please ask for just ask a question! I’m happy to break anything down further.
Why is the Saturday, December 12, 2020 workshop discounted? Will there be discounts in the future?
The typical price for the workshop is $99.
I’m discounting the first one by $25 because I’ll be fine-tuning my pacing and observing whether the discussion prompts are working well. I might tweak these aspects after the pilot run.
I’m also asking for detailed feedback and a testimonial from all participants, which I won’t require from participants in future workshop instances.
I may offer discounts on the workshop in the future, such as for early bird registration or my current clients, but they won’t ever be as deep as $25.
Register now to lock in your discount—you won’t see it again!Register for the Grad Student Workshop Register for the PhD Workshop
